The castle´s last private owner - count Augustin Ehrensvärd - passed away in 1934. One year later Svaneholm´s Castle cooperative society was founded. The society bought the castle and the park, the garden, most of the lake and the surrounding forest. The cemetery and the monument "The Macklean memorial" are also part of the administrative district.
 
The castle is a well-atended tourist attraction. This makes it possible to keep this part of the Swedish history alive.
